Shri Sanjay Bhatia
Commissioner of Sales Tax

Sub: Compulsory E-payment of VAT
Dear Sir,
We represent the wholesalers of Pharmaceuticals products of Mumbai & having membership of more than 400.
From 01-06-2010 it is compulsory to make VAT Payment by e-payment only for monthly return filers. Thus VAT for May 2010 is required to be paid by e-payment method only on/before 21-06-2010.
The problem is that there are only 6 months (we are not considering subsidiaries of SBI as separate banks) through which this facility is available. Even major nationalized banks like bank of Baroda, Punjab national banks etc are not in the list.
Dealers not having account in above bank will be forced to open account in these banks. On enquiry we understand that it takes at least 30 to 45 days to activate e-payment facility in general as the same is forward to bank’s HO and then the same is processed at their end.
The advertisement of compulsory e-payment has appeared in major newspapers on 8th June only.
We wish to draw your attention to the fact that income tax, service tax / Excise and now VAT is required to be paid by e-payment and they have different set of banks. How many accounts a businessman should be open to make these payments.
We request you to postpone the decision till enough banks are not included in the list & give us an opportunity to represent our care personally.
Assuring you our best services.
Thanking you,
Yours truly,
FOR THE PWA
